Study of possible correlation between myopathy and AROMASIN
Accompanying discussion about FactMed users Questions and Concerns
About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of AROMASIN patients who developed myopathy.
FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 43 individuals taking AROMASIN reported myopathy to the FDA. A total of 4431 AROMASIN drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.FDA Research Report
Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between AROMASIN and myopathy. In doing so, we compare AROMASIN with other drugs that cause myopathy, to help you evaluate whether or not AROMASIN causes myopathy. | QUESTION TEETH BRITTLE | I am on Aromasin for the last year and a half. In regards to questions about brittle teeth, I am 99.9% sure that Aromasin causes brittle teeth, I am a registered nurse in practice for 39 years now and don't usually jump to any conclusions regarding any health complaints not studied. I am now 61 years and have always had strong healthy teeth. Since on Aromasin I have had the common side effects but now have two broken teeth. My dentist always said I had healthy teeth. Off to dentist on Friday which I'm not looking forward to as I have never had major problems before. I am so convinced this is the cause of Aromasin. I am done Aromasin next May but really wondering if all these terrible side effects are really worth it!!!! | 2015-08-04 21:37:11 |

| QUESTION VITAMIN B12 DEFICIENCY | I switched to Aromasin over a year ago. it's been a year from H---. Had to quit for about 8 months due to side effects and now back on for 2 months. Same side effects. In this year, I have been almost unable to walk without help, joint, muscle & bone pain. jaw pain turned into TMJ, loss of hair, unable to sleep and my hemoglobin went from 15.4 down to 10.2, have low B-12 and vitamin D. I had to BEG to have a Vitamin B-12 and D test done. No-one does these routinely. I also wish my doctor at Mayo Clinic would have mentioned these side effects. I have 3 years left to take these killer pills. What is worse? cancer or the pills? | 2016-02-17 14:47:54 |
| QUESTION CHANGE OF BOWEL HABIT | Am on exemestane and have changed bowel habits and pain in left side -is this related to the drug | 2016-05-10 06:39:52 |
| QUESTION ANOSMIA | I developed Anosmia after four years of exemestane. Has the loss of smell been linked to exemestane? In addition to anosmia, I developed severe carpal tunnel within two months of starting the drug in 2004, eventually leading to surgery. I was 51. My oncologist took me off the drug after four years because my dexa scans were excellent, that was 2008. In 2012, I had a minor fall from my bicycle and shattered my R hip requiring an emergency total hip replacement. This was about a year after my dexa scan indicated a small area of osteopenia on my right hip. The Anosmia began a few years after completing my four-year regimen and after eight years, I have almost no sense of smell. Luckily my sense of taste is fine. I took an aromatase inhibitor rather than Tamoxifen because I am Factor V Leiden. No chemo or radiation, just exemestane. | 2016-07-02 23:40:25 |

Am I gave med related side effects and will they get worse? | 2017-02-12 19:20:17 |
| QUESTION COMPRESSION FRACTURE | After 3 1/2 years I was taken off arimidex (aromasin). May of 2016 I began having pain in my back. It was bad and sent me to the orthopedic office. They could see a compression fracture on the X-ray and asked me when I'd fallen. I had not. I am on a blood thinner and could only take Tylenol for pain. Skipping all the way to October, 2016, I had continued with on and off bad back pain. It was debilitating at times. It's a horror story in my opinion. The extreme horrid pain was increasing and I had a PET scan and 3 MRIs in the range of 4 weeks time. More compression fractures. A bone marrow and bone biopsies were taken. After eliminating a lot of possible situations, the doctors felt I was suffering from damage from arimidex. I was taken off it right then. I'd like to say I hadn't been hindered with back pain for the first 3 years, to speak of. I went on to have one kyphoplasty on L3. And at the same time I continued to have more fractures - and they have all been of the vertebrae. They started me on zometa in attempts to strengthen the bones by stopping the calcium from being pulled out of my vertebrae. Has anybody else had Extreme pain from this same symptom? Compression fractures? I lost 4 inches of height from these blankity fractures. I was 5' 9" and within the 6 months I lost that much. It hurts to try to stand straight from the kyphosis. Thank you for reading this. I'm 69 years old. My dexascan I had this past September was Good. Meanwhile the spinal vertebrae were looking like swiss cheese. HELP Jan FL63 | 2017-04-17 15:47:32 |
| QUESTION RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS | I started having joint swelling in 2 fingers 5 days after taking Aromasin. Then developed several bumps on hand and finger. Onco felt in Aromasin. He stopped it. Had blood work 4 days after stopping it and crp and esr normal but anti CCP =139 (normal <20). This test is sensitive for rheumatoid arthritis. Can Aromasin cause anti CCP or is this really RA? Thank you. | 2017-05-06 22:05:40 |
| QUESTION CARTILAGE INJURY | I have been on Aromasin since March 2014 in the last 2 years had lots of muscular pain including sleepless nights , an MRI showed severe cartilage damage on my knees and so on I never had knee troubles before , it all began with Aromasin . | 2017-05-14 20:10:53 |
| CONCERN CARDIAC FAILURE CONGESTIVE | I had stage 1 breast cancer diagnosed in 2015. I had a lumpectomy and a 6 week course of radiation. The ONC started me on tamoxifen which caused such a discharge that It as like a continuous period. I became so raw and sensitive that I discontinued it. He them put me on Aramosin. I was on it for about 3 weeks and began to have a funny feeling in my chest. I had been to my primary doctor just 3 weeks before for a script renewal and had no problem.I made an appt with him to have a check up. My heart was skipping a beat. My doctor is sure it is from the medication, but he scheduled me for a cardiac visit in a couple weeks. On top of that I had been having cramps like you would experience when having a period. i am 78 and know that is not the case. About a week after the skipped beats, I began to have a problem with blood coming from the urethra. I did some research and both of the conditions can occur when taking Aromasin. I called my ONC and after some discussion with his triage nurse who argued that both these were not caused from the medication I suggested that she had better do some additional research before she so lightly dismisses my concerns, it was suggested that I stop the medication for 2 weeks.but wanted me to get a pelvic ultrasound. I declined until after I have been off the medication for 2 weeks. it has been 4 days now and the bleeding is subsiding and the skipped heart beat is also subsiding. This is not a coincidence. I am however going to keep the cardiologist appt just as a safety measure. This is an insidious medication and I am very upset that nothing was said about the heart issue since 26% of women report having some kind of heart problem | 2017-06-26 15:07:57 |
