Study of possible correlation between CONSTIPATION and CLARITHROMYCIN
Accompanying discussion about FactMed users Questions and Concerns
About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of CLARITHROMYCIN patients who developed CONSTIPATION.
FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 124 individuals taking CLARITHROMYCIN reported CONSTIPATION to the FDA. A total of 10851 CLARITHROMYCIN drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.FDA Research Report
Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between CLARITHROMYCIN and CONSTIPATION. In doing so, we compare CLARITHROMYCIN with other drugs that cause CONSTIPATION, to help you evaluate whether or not CLARITHROMYCIN causes CONSTIPATION. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of CLARITHROMYCIN, so you can see if CONSTIPATION ranks among CLARITHROMYCIN's most well-known side effects.
Summary StatisticsReports of CLARITHROMYCIN causing CONSTIPATION: 124
Reports of any side effect of CLARITHROMYCIN : 10851
Percentage of CLARITHROMYCIN patients where CONSTIPATION is a reported side effect: 1.1428%
FDA reports of any drug causing CONSTIPATION : 46656
Average percentage for all medicated patients where CONSTIPATION is reported as a complication: 0.2924%

| QUESTION AGEUSIA | Could there be a relationship between Infectious mononucleosis, clarithromycin and ageusia? Can someone help? My 18 year old son initially diagnosed with tonsillitis took cephalexin then clarithromycin for 9 days before being diagnosed with infectious mononucleosis. He was very very sick. At the end of week 2 of (IM) he was hospitalised for 5 days to manage pain (throat), fluids and monitor his splenomegaly (diagnosed via palpating and abdominal US) and abnormal liver function. He returned home in week 3, during which he developed a significant body rash worse on the torso and on the limbs proximally, his physician believes as a result of the interaction between the virus and the antibiotics. After 7 days the rash had virtually disappeared but over a few hours he then developed ageusia, initially he complained of a metallic taste but that disappeared over a few days. It is now 16 days after developing ageusia, with no change in his ability to taste yet. He has no other symptoms, and appears to be making a good recovery from IM otherwise. Can someone help? He is only 18 and is quite distressed by this. Thank you. | 2015-04-06 02:39:29 |

| QUESTION PHOTOSENSITIVITY ALLERGIC REACTION | I developed sun burn on my face whilst taking Clarithromycen and my doctor stated it was due to Photosensitivity and to avoid direct sun shine. I have since completed my prescribed course and seven days later, after only minimal sun exposure, now have a fully sun burnt face - very itchy, hot and redness on face only. Not on arms - the only other exposed area. Is this the effect of the drug in my system even one week after completion of course??? | 2016-12-05 19:42:33 |

| QUESTION DRUG INTERACTION | Hello, I am on Day 5 of 8 days taking Biclar Uno 500 for a sinus infection. All along I have had a terrible, metallic taste in my mouth and my stomach has been...really gurgly, for lack of a more medical term. | QUESTION NEURALGIA | I was prescribed 500mg Clarithromycin bds last week after having an unpleasant ?flu virus for over a week. I'm 80yrs old. I had a number of unpleasant effects - headache, unpleasant taste in my mouth, unable to sleep etc. I phoned the GP to say I wasn't completing the course although only half way through (3 days). I'm still experiencing unpleasant neuralgia in the left side of my face - from my t.m.joint tracking the jaw line and into my teeth. I had a large L. back tooth filled a few weeks ago with an injection but the dentist xrayed and he says no problems there. Do you think my ?trigeminal neuralgia could be caused by clarithromycin and what is the best way to deal with it? Thank you. | 2017-02-13 07:08:06 |
