About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of CLONAZEPAM patients who developed myopathy.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 51 individuals taking CLONAZEPAM reported myopathy to the FDA. A total of 31331 CLONAZEPAM drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between CLONAZEPAM and myopathy. In doing so, we compare CLONAZEPAM with other drugs that cause myopathy, to help you evaluate whether or not CLONAZEPAM causes myopathy. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of CLONAZEPAM, so you can see if myopathy ranks among CLONAZEPAM's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of CLONAZEPAM causing myopathy: 51
Reports of any side effect of CLONAZEPAM : 31331
Percentage of CLONAZEPAM patients where myopathy is a reported side effect: 0.1628%

FDA reports of any drug causing myopathy : 3605
Average percentage for all medicated patients where myopathy is reported as a complication: 0.0226%

QUESTION
PULMONARY HYPERTENSION
I have been on 6mlgs Rivotril=Clonazapam for approximately 10 years, I have just come of 14 yearss of Zoloft , and changed to lexapro. It has always been my concern that SSRI medications cause thickening of artierial walls, as I have pulmonary Hypertension. I also read where some AD MEDS cause electical problems in the heart hence, !st degree heart block, I also have mild mitral valve imcompitence, whic is minimal. I have been on valiume since I was 22 but when I told my Doc 10 years ago that I was worried that I had escilated to 15 mlgs He changed me over to CLONAZAPAM and said they were not addictive, well maybee not for some but I now find my 6 mlgs of rIvotril are equal to 60mlgs of valium and I never had any Idea that they could cause pulmonary hypertension. I have organized a withdrawal programm with a professor in Neurobiology to come of Rivotril, but would this stop or reverse the Pulmonary Hypertension, as it is mild to moderate. I am a 60 year old female and am quite afraid, your reply would be much appreciated. regards Kerry. My email address is kerry.healthrevolution@gmail.com 2014-11-17 20:58:24

COGNITIVE DISORDER
My doctor at UCSF asks that I go off clonazepam over recent concerns that the medication causes cognitive disorders. I am now given 15 (.5) pills to take as needed over 6 weeks. I find that clonazepam is helpful for easing anxiety of a male in late sixties. He would rather give me an SSRI and stop the clonazepam. I feel I should have access as needed to one .5 tablet a day. Two years ago I experienced a temporary amnesia event. The doctor wanted to place the cause to a reaction to Clonazepam. However they really didn't know what caused the glitch. My memory is not the greatest at my age of 66 however I am coping with life along with my wife. 2015-10-11 22:04:12

I have been on clonazepam for about 2 months. My period came as expected and then ended. 4 days later it seemed to have started again; however, I presume from what I'm reading on the web I have dysfunctional uterine/vaginal bleeding. It has persisted for 2 weeks now. Will this continue as long as I am on clonazepam? Or will my body eventually adjust and the bleeding subside? Of course I will consult with my physician, but thought I would look for answers here as well. Thanks! 2015-12-11 20:41:39

QUESTION
PARANOIA
Hi I started taking clonazepam 6 weeks ago for anxiety. It worked for the 1St month. This last couple weeks I'm back to the way I was before I started it. But I have noticed some old behaviours creeping back into my mind. And then last night it came to me that it could be from the med. I'm strong in my recovery in my battle with my mental illness but I'm finding I'm worried more again about what people think about me so I'm guarded on what I should or shouldn't say. I feel paranoid like everything I say is under a microscope and whether a close friendship I have with someone will end if I don't get a handle on this. I've been reading stuff into things he says or doesn't say or certain words he uses and I start ruminating thoughts that are all neg and full of my inadequacies. I've always felt so comfortable with this one friend and now there's times I feel tense and guarded. I'm feeling insecure again. I'm having a health problem that's been hanging on for 10 months with no affirmative diagnosis and my husband is emotionally and psychologically abusive to me for the past year. The clonazepam I wanted was for the anxiety the stress our marriage is putting on making my health symptoms worse. But my current concerns weren't there before the clonazepam. So could this med be causing my current thoughts and feelings 2017-03-01 12:53:36
