Study of possible correlation between myopathy and LEXAPRO
Accompanying discussion about FactMed users Questions and Concerns
About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of LEXAPRO patients who developed myopathy.
FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 40 individuals taking LEXAPRO reported myopathy to the FDA. A total of 34187 LEXAPRO drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.FDA Research Report
Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between LEXAPRO and myopathy. In doing so, we compare LEXAPRO with other drugs that cause myopathy, to help you evaluate whether or not LEXAPRO causes myopathy. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of LEXAPRO, so you can see if myopathy ranks among LEXAPRO's most well-known side effects.
Summary StatisticsReports of LEXAPRO causing myopathy: 40
Reports of any side effect of LEXAPRO : 34187
Percentage of LEXAPRO patients where myopathy is a reported side effect: 0.1170%
FDA reports of any drug causing myopathy : 3605

Two things potentially related to this article: 1: For at least a couple of years, I occasionally have a spell where when I breath in deeply - I get a sharp pain in my left bicep. 2: About 1 month ago I experienced a 48 hour period where I felt like someone was sitting on my chest. I checked out fine at the doctor - blood pressure, EKG, etc. Is there any pattern here for me to make sense of? I am healthy, hwp, dont eat meat, dont drink alcohol. I do use caffiene and vaporized cannabis daily. Thank you. | 2015-11-04 22:22:26 |

| CONCERN PELVIC PAIN | My 17 year old daughter has been taking 20mg of Escitalopram (generic for Lexapro), per day for about a year. On March 26, two days before her last menses, she began experiencing intense menstrual cramps which has continued for 60 days now (May 18th), through 2 menstrual cycles and periods. The pain hardly ever goes below a 4, and has been as high as an 8, every day. It has been constant, though she has always been a deep sleeper, so she gets relief at night. No NSAID has given any relief, and as a teenager driving herself to and from school, we have chosen not to have her take any stronger pain medication for fear of its effect. She has had a pelvic exam by an OBGYN nurse practitioner; been seen twice by Urgent Care doctors and three times by an OBGYN. She's had blood work done, urinalysis, CAT scan, Transvaginal Ultrasound, pelvic Ultrasound, testing for STDs, and pregnancy. On paper she is the picture of health. Next she will be evaluated for Endometriosis by the UCSD Center for Endometriosis Research and Treatment in La Jolla, CA. I came to this site to see if there is any correlation between pelvic pain and Lexapro (or generics of the drug). She takes the generic form from Blue Point manufacturers. | 2016-05-18 15:46:02 |
