About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of LISINOPRIL patients who developed myopathy.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 99 individuals taking LISINOPRIL reported myopathy to the FDA. A total of 79427 LISINOPRIL drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between LISINOPRIL and myopathy. In doing so, we compare LISINOPRIL with other drugs that cause myopathy, to help you evaluate whether or not LISINOPRIL causes myopathy. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of LISINOPRIL, so you can see if myopathy ranks among LISINOPRIL's most well-known side effects.

HAIR GROWTH ABNORMAL
I stopped taking lisinopril about June of 2013. By July sometime my hair was falling out. Not in clumps, but in strands of hair... it just seemed to be everywhere. in the food when I cooked, extra hair in my brush, strands of hair all over my clothes. I had been taking Lisinopril for about 5 years and noticed that my hair grew long, and looked wonderful. When i stopped with the meds and became thinner, it also became shorter. Will hair growth eventually normalize? Thanks 2014-12-14 00:55:06
QUESTION
RETCHING
I began a LISINOPRIL AND HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE regimen 4 weeks ago. I began at 5mg/2x day and 12.5 mg 1x a day for 2 weeks, then to 10 mg/2x a day and 25mg 1x a day since. I began having a dry, hacking cough that has gotten progressively worse, until I began choking, retching and vomiting foamy fluid. I have not slept through the night due to this cough since my dose was raised. Never in my life have I ever experienced this type of cough. There are no signs or symptoms of a cold, other illness or infection, I just start either coughing or gagging at totally random intervals. I believe that since these meds are the only change in my life I am dealing with side effects of the meds (that are not improving). Are there any suggestions to manage these symptoms or should I talk to my doctor about changing meds? 2014-12-16 14:34:32

MANIA
I have battled mania for most of my life. I started taking Lisinopril 5 days ago, 10mg daily. Today at work I flew into a rage over something pretty trivial in the grand scheme of things. This hasn't happened to me in years. After the episode, I was able to easily recognize all the signs and symptoms of a manic attack. I am seeing my doctor tomorrow about this. I can't live with the mania. It won't be long before I lose my job... or worse. 2015-05-11 17:20:26

QUESTION
ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT
It doesn't. The rise in diastolic prsreuse associated with renal failure is a symptom, not the cause of kidney failure. What actually happens is that renal failure impairs the ability to allow blood to flow through the blood vessels of the kidney, presenting a greater resistance to flow. This causes a rise in the total resistance of the peripheral arteries, but since cardiac output remains unchanged, the product of the two (CO X TPR) rises. This is seen as an increase in diastolic prsreuse. You'll observe lots of thumbs down ratings on this from people who misinterpret the mechanism. Take no notice; I don't take any. 2015-07-13 19:12:37

QUESTION
BONE LOSS
I took lisinopril for 3 months and it almost destroyed my life. The hand tremors you ask about are just a fraction of what I experienced. My body felt like there was a mini earthquake inside me and I could do nothing to stop it. My head would ache, my skin was so dry it cracked. I had beautiful dark skin before I used it. I still can't pull my hair back long because of the collagen it pulled from my skin along with the excess body water. My skin has lost some of its' elasticity and is easily irritated. I also had body aches like you wouldn't believe along with pain in my jaw. My vision was blurry and I couldn't understand why. I read for hours at a time on any given day. When I realized it had to be the lisinopril I stopped it immediately. Within two days, my headaches stopped, the flushed feeling around my face and jaw ache stopped, the bone ache stopped. After a month, my vision is back to normal, and I read and sit at my computer for 8 hours or longer some days without pain or blurred vision. The tremors are less, but are still noticeable on some days, especially when I do anything like exercise, or when I first get up in the morning. I actually had to hold my head some times because the tremors stopped me in my tracks. This medication can cause bone loss and B12 deficiency, which can lead to lack of red blood cells, which can be the blame for bleeding of the gums, or internal organs. In my opinion, this is a dangerous drug. Hale 2015-07-28 16:50:41

URINE ALCOHOL TEST POSITIVE
I take random urine drug tests for drug court 3 times a week. I was negative for everything for a year, than about 2 months after starting Lisinopril 30mg I started testing positive for ETG. I have limited my exposure to cleaning products and cosmetics that contain alcohol, and check the ingredients on all of my food. My probation officer is starting to wonder if the Lisinopril is doing something to my body to cause this. Anyone have any suggestions? 2015-09-16 16:22:33

QUESTION
PERIODONTAL DISEASE
I take excellent care of my mouth because I hate bad breath and scorn people who do because I think they have neglected the basic principles of oral and dental care. Well, two weeks ago I suffered a major allergic reaction from linicipril; had not been mostly compliant as prescribed, but had taken at least 10 tablets per month over the past year when my blood pressure became elevated. My allergic reaction was the swelling of my lips and face to unrecognizable proportions; I was devastated. A shot in the butt, Benadryl, and prednisone brought back to normal. Since then, I have developed sore gums around one tooth, and now I have some mouth sores along my gum line. I have no doubt that this is due to the use of linicipril. I am also peri menopausal and let me not get started on how painful and flowing my periods are when I now get them. Have anyone had similar experiencse? I mean - this thing is moving rapidly. My gum has receded from the tooth in only four days. 2015-11-02 23:36:40
QUESTION
TOOTHACHE
I have lupus and chronic hypertension. I started taking lisinopril for hypertension on 10/31/2015. That same evening, I noticed a nerve-like pain in my left neck and shoulder, and a sore knot formed on my shoulder. On 11/01/2015, I started having intense pains in my right jaw. It felt like a really bad toothache, which I'd never experienced like that. The pains were like a toothache, nerve pain, and earache, all at the same time, and every day that I took that pill, the pains became more intense... I was asked how can I know for sure that it was lisinopril that was causing this. And my answer is that I know because I don't take any other medication. But everyday, about an hour after taking lisinopril, the pains would start and become more intense throughout the day. By morning, before my next dose, there would only be light, residual pains. I have a high pain tolerance. I deal with pain, without meds most of the time. But when this pain brought me to tears on 11/08/2015, I knew that was my last day taking it. I contacted my doctor, and she told me that what I was describing to her were not common side effects of lisinopril. She said that it sounds more like I'm having symptoms of a stroke or heart attack. And it does... but if that's what it is, I believe the lisinopril has caused that as well. The only positive thing that I can say about my experience taking lisinopril is that it did lower my blood pressure... 2015-11-10 08:55:45

I have been taking lido optic hztz since August 29 as of today I have had an annul fissure develop. I had a colonoscopy with no sign of cancer then have had to get shots of Botox in my anus muscles. They think I may have crohns and none of my issues existed until taking this medication. I was and have been in unbearable pain and haven't had a normal stool until I stopped taking the medicine for a week then was already scheduled for the Botox surgery. When issues first arrived I spoke to my doctor who dismissed the medicine was or could be reason. Every doctor I have spoke to says this isn't a side effect I disagree. No one in my family had crohns. I have never had bowel issues until taking this medication. CONCERN
BREAST ENLARGEMENT
I have gone through dry cough, seizures, hand tremors, hair increase, and decreased hair growth on back and chest, as well as grown 40c breast after 3 years of lisinopril. Fibromyalgia and muscle atrophy occurred, false alcohol readings in blood test and urine and severe liver damage to the point of almost dying. I have been off for 8 months now and gradually getting better. I have been able to lose some weight, very slow and I am adamant about intake and quality. This is a slow healing process as the weight loss is too, you have to be patient. If you too have developed breast as I have surgery will be the only solution to remove them. Make note, Lisinopril has been prescribed by therapist to transgender men for hormone therapy as a substitute for spironolactone. Both are used as anti-androgens and cause liver damage unless monitored by a physician to help prevent against this. The lisinopril will cause hormone levels to rise exponentially in most men causing serious moodiness, IE Hormonal moments! Emotional breakdowns have occurred with some men, I had a couple myself. Dry mouth to the inth degree rocatia and other skin issues take place too. Joint pain and aches and severe weakness that stem from the damage to the liver. Unable to digest your food due to the bile production being hindered due to liver damage. Stomach swelling, bloat, abdominal pangs, constipation and at times extreme runny stools. My dosage was 20mg and was on the med for over three years. As stated earlier, I am getting a bit better by taking natural supplements, Milk Thistle and Turmeric as well as Phillips proBiotics to aid in digestion. 2016-08-20 08:36:12
