About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of RAPAMUNE patients who developed myopathy.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 43 individuals taking RAPAMUNE reported myopathy to the FDA. A total of 5466 RAPAMUNE drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between RAPAMUNE and myopathy. In doing so, we compare RAPAMUNE with other drugs that cause myopathy, to help you evaluate whether or not RAPAMUNE causes myopathy. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of RAPAMUNE, so you can see if myopathy ranks among RAPAMUNE's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of RAPAMUNE causing myopathy: 43
Reports of any side effect of RAPAMUNE : 5466
Percentage of RAPAMUNE patients where myopathy is a reported side effect: 0.7867%

FDA reports of any drug causing myopathy : 3605
Average percentage for all medicated patients where myopathy is reported as a complication: 0.0226%

QUESTION
CYCLIC VOMITING SYNDROME
My son takes Rapamune and has CVS. He had a kidney transplant in 2002. The CVS has gotten out of control the last year with numerous repeated episodes. Every 2-4 weeks in the ER with SEVERE stomach pain, nausea and vomiting. It is getting more and more difficult for treatment as so many ER's really don't know what to do to treat it. I am wondering if the Rapamune could be the cause and because he continues to use it if it could be continually making the CVS worse and worse. He is very hesitant to change the Rapamune as his kidney has favored very well through all of this. He has a real fear of rejecting his kidney and having to deal with that again. Along with the CVS he has peripheral neuropathy, syncope, type 2 heart block, blood pressure issues, severe weight loss etc. What we need is a doctor who can look at his whole picture which I know is very compicated, but someone who cares enough to help him. We live in northern Ohio. If anyone knows of a doctor or specialist that would fit this I would really appreciate you forwarding the information as my fear is one of these times it is just going to be to much for him. PLEASE any advise is appreciated. 2015-01-15 14:48:55
QUESTION
male infertility
My husband has been taking 1mg of Rapamune daily for the last 5 years. We are trying to find out the likelihood that this medication has made him sterile. Any help is greatly appreciated! 2015-11-06 18:32:22
