About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of VITAMIN D patients who developed myopathy.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 45 individuals taking VITAMIN D reported myopathy to the FDA. A total of 36460 VITAMIN D drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between VITAMIN D and myopathy. In doing so, we compare VITAMIN D with other drugs that cause myopathy, to help you evaluate whether or not VITAMIN D causes myopathy. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of VITAMIN D, so you can see if myopathy ranks among VITAMIN D's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of VITAMIN D causing myopathy: 45
Reports of any side effect of VITAMIN D : 36460
Percentage of VITAMIN D patients where myopathy is a reported side effect: 0.1234%

FDA reports of any drug causing myopathy : 3605
Average percentage for all medicated patients where myopathy is reported as a complication: 0.0226%

CONCERN
ALTERED VISUAL DEPTH PERCEPTION
There is a very strong correlation between vitamin d and depth perception. I am an immigrant to canada from india, where i never noticed any changes in my depth perception. But after moving to Canada, I realized the side effects of not getting enough vit. d. Being lactose tolerant I don't get enough vitamin d from my milk. So this whole month had been very gloomy, and I yesterday decided to buy some vitamin d supplements. To my surprise after consuming the supplement after an hour, my eyes suddenly started focusing very clearly on distant objects. I raised my head, and saw a city center tower yest, which was far far away from me. I think when we lack vitamin d, our eyes sub consciously stop focusing on distant objects, but after our levels are restored, they automatically begin to focus on distant objects. It doesn't even take my eyes an hour to set themselves up, and I start focusing on distant objects very clearly.
