About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of CALCIUM patients who developed AKINESIA.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 2 individuals taking CALCIUM reported AKINESIA to the FDA. A total of 30071 CALCIUM drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between CALCIUM and AKINESIA. In doing so, we compare CALCIUM with other drugs that cause AKINESIA, to help you evaluate whether or not CALCIUM causes AKINESIA. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of CALCIUM, so you can see if AKINESIA ranks among CALCIUM's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of CALCIUM causing AKINESIA: 2
Reports of any side effect of CALCIUM : 30071
Percentage of CALCIUM patients where AKINESIA is a reported side effect: 0.0067%

FDA reports of any drug causing AKINESIA : 753
Average percentage for all medicated patients where AKINESIA is reported as a complication: 0.0047%

QUESTION
PERSONALITY CHANGE
Hi, I suffered severe hypercalcemia due to hyperparathyroidism (had mass making lower left parathyroid 12 times normal size). I was hospitalized for long periods for over one year due to intractable vomiting, headaches but most noticeable to those around me was my personality change. Always a law abiding citizen and registered nurse I was a pretty "normal" person. Over the time I was sufferin hypercalcemia (unknown to me or doctors at the time) my personality changed so much I even ended up in trouble with the law. As a result I lost my nursing license and everything material I had worked for. I have flash backs and recall things I did but sometimes don't know if it was a dream or actually happened. Only way I can describe it is like having a drunken college night out and then next day having flash backs and cringing as you recall what you may have said and done. Is this common in hypercalcemia episodes such as mine? Oh and my serum.calcium at time of diagnosis was 3 times the highest normal limit. Thank.you 2015-11-02 18:09:24
