About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of CODEINE patients who developed ACHLORHYDRIA.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 2 individuals taking CODEINE reported ACHLORHYDRIA to the FDA. A total of 2711 CODEINE drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between CODEINE and ACHLORHYDRIA. In doing so, we compare CODEINE with other drugs that cause ACHLORHYDRIA, to help you evaluate whether or not CODEINE causes ACHLORHYDRIA. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of CODEINE, so you can see if ACHLORHYDRIA ranks among CODEINE's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of CODEINE causing ACHLORHYDRIA: 2
Reports of any side effect of CODEINE : 2711
Percentage of CODEINE patients where ACHLORHYDRIA is a reported side effect: 0.0738%

FDA reports of any drug causing ACHLORHYDRIA : 27
Average percentage for all medicated patients where ACHLORHYDRIA is reported as a complication: 0.0002%

QUESTION
HYPOTHALAMO-PITUITARY DISORDERS
Hi, i was diagnosed with pituitary disease and secondary adrenal insufficiency two years ago and have been on steroids since, i have been on di-hydrocodiene on and off for years, (prolapsed disc) and stopped them last year as consultants said this is how i got my Pit dis. I'm not convinced as I have had to endure insurmountable amount of stress over the last 15 yrs and been living on my nerves, which I think has exhausted my adrenals. I am on codeine phosphate at the moment, but want to wean myself off. I have a hospital appointment to see a team in the pain clinic. I want desperately off all this codeine, do you have any suggestions how I can come off them easily as I feel slightly addicted to them now??? Thank you 2015-01-12 09:22:51

ABDOMINAL ADHESIONS
This page conveys that Zopiclone which is a nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic agent is the same drug as Codeine Phosphate which is a naturally occurring methylated morphine and an opiate. They are two COMPLETELY different drugs. 2015-03-02 17:16:28
QUESTION
ARRHYTHMIA
I have been wearing a heart monitor to track my arrhythmias, and last night went to bed after taking a teaspoon of codeine cough syrup prescribed by my physician. It was, as prescribed, my second teaspoon in five hours. An hour later my arrhythmias became really profound -- double heart beats followed by a couple regular beats and then a skipped beat -- this pattern repeating itself over and over -- i became alarmed and took my BP - something might haver been wrong with the BP machine as it read 172/149....i waited ten minutes and it was 160/93...the episode lasted about an hour and I eventually leveled off after taking (per physician recommendation) atenolol 25 and xanax 25. (However, my BP then went down to 103/45 and back up later to 115/73) All this CV activity scared me.... Could the codeine be increasing the irregular heart beat? 2015-03-04 00:37:25

CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME
I broke my back in 1999. I occasionally take prescription codeine. I find that in the middle of the night my wrists and my fingers and hands hurt with the most incredible pain ever. I talked to my mom about it and she said what I was describing sounded like carpel tunnel. Since then when my hands hurt I let them fall over the side of the bed so that they are in a position to get more blood flow. ( apparently this helps.) and I also tried wearing my mothers carpel tunnel braces on my wrists. It has helped, but I just don't understand why this medication gives me this problem. 2016-10-09 08:44:31
