About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of COUMADIN patients who developed ACHLORHYDRIA.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 6 individuals taking COUMADIN reported ACHLORHYDRIA to the FDA. A total of 53117 COUMADIN drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between COUMADIN and ACHLORHYDRIA. In doing so, we compare COUMADIN with other drugs that cause ACHLORHYDRIA, to help you evaluate whether or not COUMADIN causes ACHLORHYDRIA. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of COUMADIN, so you can see if ACHLORHYDRIA ranks among COUMADIN's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of COUMADIN causing ACHLORHYDRIA: 6
Reports of any side effect of COUMADIN : 53117
Percentage of COUMADIN patients where ACHLORHYDRIA is a reported side effect: 0.0113%

FDA reports of any drug causing ACHLORHYDRIA : 27
Average percentage for all medicated patients where ACHLORHYDRIA is reported as a complication: 0.0002%

QUESTION
SKIN FRAGILITY
Hello, My father, 84 years old, is taking Coumadin about 7 mg per day. He had severe arrhythmia and having implanted pacemaker in his chest. He leads active life style, including walking and swimming. What bothers us is that in addition to bruising all the time that is expected when taking coumadin, he has serious skin fragility since started taking the grug. And symptoms worsen and intensify with the time: pieces of skin fall off at minimal scrape, the skin flakes off. His cardiologist once asked if the coumadin can be changed to another drug did not suggest anything. 1. Will be glad to hear what kind of specialist we need to apply with this problem. 2. Can be that the external symptoms we see on the skin happen appear inside of the body as well? 3. What are better alternatives for Coumadin? Any advice will be appreciated. Gary 2015-05-16 06:54:25

QUESTION
PHOTOSENSITIVITY REACTION
My neighbor and good friend has been on Coumadin for about 9 years. She has MANY adverse symptoms! She has skin sensitivity to the point of she has a "painful" time just trying to "apply" lotion to her arms and legs. She told me yesterday that she cannot rub the lotion into her skin because it "hurts" too badly. She also has trouble swallowing at times. She has "hoarseness" in her voice and "frequently" loses her voice and has trouble speaking. Her skin is very, very bad looking and she has pallor not just on her face but, all over. She also, occasionally has fluid retention in her feet. She has "developed" Afib in the past 5 years. From every article I have researched, Coumadin seems to be "toxic" to a persons body in many different ways. 2016-05-01 07:54:00

VARICOSE VEIN RUPTURED
Our son was taking coumadin for the past 20+ years. He had venous insufficiency in his legs with varicose veins and wore compression stockings. Unexpectedly, last October, he stepped off the bus from work and noticed some drops of blood on the kitchen floor. He called for his Mother as his varicose vein in one leg unexpectedly ruptured! He bled out more than half his blood but held on with a tracheotomy for 67 days in Intensive Care. He developed sepsis, organs began shutting down and he passed away four days after Christmas. His Mother and me suspect negligence due to his being high level MR/DD with very slight Downs Syndrome. He lived at home and worked at a sheltered workshop for nearly 30 years. Our son's loss has caused such depression with my wife and our remaining three sons! Wish there was something legal we could do to promote his Memory and find the answers "why?? " 2016-08-31 20:41:38

WEIGHT DECREASED
Here is another factoid to echo one of Simeon’s points ….A few days ago I visited Tsinghua Univesity in Beijing, China’s MIT. This is not some outback university in western China. I walked through one of their dorms. I saw 4 and even 6 students to a room; not the two to a room you see in a US college dorm. Think of what their energy consumption would be if they lived like us. In the US, we think we are somehow victims or that “space is tight” if our homes are less than 2,000 square feet in size. And a 2,000 square foot “green” and &#t2;02sus8ainable” home? Folks, that is an oxymoron. 2017-03-20 08:51:25
