About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of CYMBALTA patients who developed ACANTHOLYSIS.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 9 individuals taking CYMBALTA reported ACANTHOLYSIS to the FDA. A total of 47464 CYMBALTA drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between CYMBALTA and ACANTHOLYSIS. In doing so, we compare CYMBALTA with other drugs that cause ACANTHOLYSIS, to help you evaluate whether or not CYMBALTA causes ACANTHOLYSIS. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of CYMBALTA, so you can see if ACANTHOLYSIS ranks among CYMBALTA's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of CYMBALTA causing ACANTHOLYSIS: 9
Reports of any side effect of CYMBALTA : 47464
Percentage of CYMBALTA patients where ACANTHOLYSIS is a reported side effect: 0.0190%

FDA reports of any drug causing ACANTHOLYSIS : 33

QUESTION
OPHTHALMOLOGICAL EXAMINATION ABNORMAL
Had been on 60 mg of Cymbalta for 2 months, an increase from 40 mg for 9 months, due to lumbar pain. Had multiple side effects on 60 mg so physician abruptly discontinued. My "withdrawl" was ridiculous and life altering in many ways but since being off the Cymbalta I have a large amount of posterior vitreous floaters. Difficulty seeing and have seen retinal specialist. Could this problem be related to the Cymbalta? 2014-12-30 04:36:47

QUESTION
DROOLING
Hi - i have been on Cymbalta and Lamotrigine for nearly a year and a half. I have noticed that i feel like I am drooling slightly from the corner of my mouth for at least 6-9 months. a) Can this be attributed to Cymbalta ... and b) if I can get myself of Cymbalta (which I hear can be VERY hard) - is this likely to go away? 2015-01-16 22:48:45
CONCERN
NEUROGENIC SHOCK
I take 20mg Cymbalta daily. On days where I have been more than 4 hours late, or on which I forget entirely, the withdrawal period occurs about 8-12 hours from the time I typically take it, and can last a few hours after I have taken it again. This period involves what I can only describe as a Dopamine drop, with resulting depressive symptoms of anxiety, restlessness, and a flaring temper as well as the expected low-dopa-related neurogenic shock. 2015-02-10 17:25:05

QUESTION
DYSPNOEA
I have been experiencing extreme dyspnoea since I have been on Cymbalta. I have had every test from my pulmonologist and my cardiologist to no avail. They have finally conceded that it could be the Cymbalta and to get off of it very fast. I cannot do that because of the horrible side effects while withdrawing. I am wondering if anyone can tell me will the shortness of breath go away when I am done weaning? This has been very debilitating for me as I can't do much because of it. My doctors say that there is nothing wrong with my heart or lungs. My arterial blood oxygen was 57 the last time that a blood gas was done. Not good! 2015-04-06 11:42:56

I did get completely off of it and could breathe fine again. I had to go back on because of the withdrawal effects. I am now weaning off slowly. I am wondering if anyone has experienced shortness of breath and did it go away when you were off the Cymbalta? This has been very debilitating for me as I can't do much because of it. My doctors say that there is nothing wrong with my lungs or heart. My arterial blood oxygen was 57 though! 2015-04-06 12:57:41

My entire life I never was in any trouble. I began taking Cymbalta and didn't realize my behavior was changing I ended up getting in trouble for theft twice and I ended up cheating on my husband both things I would have never done in a million years had I been in the right state of mind I didn't realize I had a problem with the Cymbalta until after I stopped taking it. after the drug was out of my system I cried for days when I realized I was making all these morally wrong decisions and I had no recollection as to why I did them. I am completely back to normal and wouldn't think of doing those things ever I truly believe my experience with cymbalta cause my behavior to change 2015-06-10 20:46:17

ASPARTATE AMINOTRANSFERASE INCREASED
Great post! I'm a tea addict. I could never get thguorh an entire day without a cup of freshly-brewed loose green tea. The smell alone is enough to make my mouth water and the delicious sensation of fresh hot tea sliding down my throat is something that I always take time to relish during my tea break. Green tea has tons of health benefits and is a great source of antioxidants. The ever increasing sale of green tea actually, is due to its ability to produce fat oxidation. This simply means that drinking green tea will act directly on your body to lessen your fats because of its natural oxidizing property. 2015-07-13 06:24:55

CONFUSIONAL STATE
I have noticed eye floaters since starting Cymbalta, they have since went away after stopping the medication. Likewise there was a very intense yes-yes titubation when on Lyrica the worse, Cymbalta more mild of a titubation... appears to be tapering off the longer I have been off the medication. Diazepam helped minimize the withdraw from Cymbalta and has helped make the titubation and slowly tapering off the diazepam and not noticing the titubation as much. Hopefully this will help stop this otherwise would be considered a tick. 2015-07-27 11:53:26

SEBACEOUS GLANDS OVERACTIVITY
I took Cymbalta 20 msg for 4 days, then 40 msg for 25 days 9 months ago. I had taken Cymbalta twice before with no adverse effects. On day 29, I suddenly developed red eyelid, petechiae-like rash on my trunk, Fordyce spots and aphthous ulcers in my mouth, lip swelling, rosacea, itchy ears, and blepharitis, none of which I have ever had before. The medication was discontinued after 29 days. I have not been on any medication at all since. These skin reactions have gradually abated over time, but are still present, particularly under stress. This has all been diagnosed as sebaceous gland over activity. I am curious about whether there have been other reports of this reaction following Cymbalta use and how best to report it to the FDA. Female, age 74 no other medical problems except Major Depression. All tests negative. 2015-11-01 07:04:20

DYSTONIA
While on Cymbalta 120 per day. I noticed ridges or calluses on the inside of my jaws like my teeth were biting down. My tongue felt sore on both sides a lot of times like my teeth were making intentions in it. I also noticed being more compulsive, like doing stuff I wouldn't normally do. Like making decisions way faster than I use to on stuff that should have taken longer. I noticed that I seemed like I didn't care about much of anything anymore. I didn't relate all this to the Cymbalta until my tongue started cramping and waking me up at night. I looked on line and saw this could be a side effect of Cymbalta, as well as, the previously mentioned symptoms. HOWEVER, I have been slowly trying to get off of Cymbalta and I am down to 30 mgs every 3 days. I am having pain like carpel tunnel syndrome, lots of diarrhea and mood swings. I have also had brain zaps, but I think that is getting better. What can I do to counteract this??? 2015-11-07 13:11:22

HYPERSOMNIA
I have been on cymbalta for 3 years now. If I am even an hour late for taking the drug (sometimes 45 minutes) I start experiencing extreme dizziness, brain zaps, nausea, and I get really disoriented. I am a high achieving student and go to Johns Hopkins University, I was valedictorian of my high school, yet I have found extreme lack of interest/motivation mainly appearing as hypersomnia. When I am stressed I sleep my problems away. And I can sleep for way more than I should be able to, fall asleep in the middle of the day for no reason, and I never had this problem before Cymbalta. I honestly think there is a lot of research that needs to be done on long term cymbalta effects and the fact that drug companies are trying to hide the insanely extreme withdrawal effects from the public is simply atrocious. 2016-08-17 14:25:56
