Study of possible correlation between EXOPHTHALMOS and FOSAMAX
Accompanying discussion about FactMed users Questions and Concerns
About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of FOSAMAX patients who developed EXOPHTHALMOS.
FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 27 individuals taking FOSAMAX reported EXOPHTHALMOS to the FDA. A total of 78367 FOSAMAX drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.FDA Research Report
Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between FOSAMAX and EXOPHTHALMOS. In doing so, we compare FOSAMAX with other drugs that cause EXOPHTHALMOS, to help you evaluate whether or not FOSAMAX causes EXOPHTHALMOS. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of FOSAMAX, so you can see if EXOPHTHALMOS ranks among FOSAMAX's most well-known side effects.
Summary StatisticsReports of FOSAMAX causing EXOPHTHALMOS: 27
Reports of any side effect of FOSAMAX : 78367
Percentage of FOSAMAX patients where EXOPHTHALMOS is a reported side effect: 0.0345%
FDA reports of any drug causing EXOPHTHALMOS : 710

I went to the Emergency room thinking I was having a heart attack(jaw pain, severe shoulder pain and some left arm pain. I was then told my lipase and amylase levels were elevated. They thought I had alcohol issues, but I told them I have 1 drink a week when I go out to dinner on Friday nights with my girlfriends. They did an ultrasound endoscopy and I have an abundance of calcium deposits in the tail of my pancreas that has been there for quite awhile. The only thing I can think of is the fosamax plus D I took for 5 years and told my doctor that I heard women were breaking bones who were talking it. They are telling me they are not sure what caused it. At this point there are no ducts blocked or stones.
