About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of GLIMEPIRIDE patients who developed ACANTHOLYSIS.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 1 individuals taking GLIMEPIRIDE reported ACANTHOLYSIS to the FDA. A total of 8979 GLIMEPIRIDE drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between GLIMEPIRIDE and ACANTHOLYSIS. In doing so, we compare GLIMEPIRIDE with other drugs that cause ACANTHOLYSIS, to help you evaluate whether or not GLIMEPIRIDE causes ACANTHOLYSIS. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of GLIMEPIRIDE, so you can see if ACANTHOLYSIS ranks among GLIMEPIRIDE's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of GLIMEPIRIDE causing ACANTHOLYSIS: 1
Reports of any side effect of GLIMEPIRIDE : 8979
Percentage of GLIMEPIRIDE patients where ACANTHOLYSIS is a reported side effect: 0.0111%

FDA reports of any drug causing ACANTHOLYSIS : 33

QUESTION
LACTIC ACIDOSIS
Was diagnosed with lactic because of Metformin. Stopped taking it & all other otc vitamins/supplements that might be gastro irritants. Things seem to settle down. In May 2016 started Glimeperide 1 mg once daily. Now have same systoms (liquid stool, discomfort in upper abdomen area & sweatier than usual & lethargy. My doctor says doesn't happen with Glimeperide. I think she is wrong. Thanks 2016-07-31 13:24:03
QUESTION
ERYTHEMA NODOSUM
I have type II diabetes and take (3) 500 mg of metformin and (3) 2 mg of glimepiride daily, along with multiple meds and vitamins. In the summer of 2011, I was taking 5 metformin pills and doctor added glimepiride (4 pills) daily. In February of 2012, I developed erythema nodosum. Began a NutraSystem diet in Sept., 2014, and the erythema nodosum went away. The diet allowed me to reduce my meds to 2 metformin and 1 glimepiride daily. Since leaving the diet in May, 2015, (I am currently taking 3 metformin and 3 glimepiride daily) I have developed what appears to be severe erythema nodosum in June. 2016. Is the glimepiride the culprit? Am I having an allergic reaction to it? 2016-08-13 14:55:34
