About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of INSULIN patients who developed ACHLORHYDRIA.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 1 individuals taking INSULIN reported ACHLORHYDRIA to the FDA. A total of 29217 INSULIN drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between INSULIN and ACHLORHYDRIA. In doing so, we compare INSULIN with other drugs that cause ACHLORHYDRIA, to help you evaluate whether or not INSULIN causes ACHLORHYDRIA. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of INSULIN, so you can see if ACHLORHYDRIA ranks among INSULIN's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of INSULIN causing ACHLORHYDRIA: 1
Reports of any side effect of INSULIN : 29217
Percentage of INSULIN patients where ACHLORHYDRIA is a reported side effect: 0.0034%

FDA reports of any drug causing ACHLORHYDRIA : 27
Average percentage for all medicated patients where ACHLORHYDRIA is reported as a complication: 0.0002%

LIPOMA
Can Levemir insulin cause a cat to develop systemic lipomas? Also, can insulin cause digestive issues such as a change in stool color, consistency, smell (very foul) and frequency? My T2 diabetic kitty was diagnosed Oct 2015. His vet started him out on Novalin N. She made a HUGE mistake and told us 1 unit was at the 10 mark on the syringe! Rather than starting at 2 units daily he was getting 20 units! Thank god he weighed about 26 lbs at the time. He's about 20.5 inches long and so he's a bigger than usual kitty. I'll spare you all the details but he nearly died when he caught the flu and his vet said to go ahead and give him 1/2 of his usual dose even though he'd been vomiting etc. We found a new vet who switched him to Levemir. He now takes 4 units twice a day but his nadir is too high. The Novalin N had been working well even when we lowered the dose but then it just suddenly stopped helping and that's why we switched. But, no matter if we go up or down on his insulin his BG numbers don't change much. His nadir is usually between 200 and 240! Stable is good but a lower nadir is better. I have him on a "tight regulation". He eats only the BEST human grade wet food with no dry food. Anyway, since starting the Levemir he's developed a bunch of lipomas. They're on his hind legs, back/rib area, shoulder, neck, and belly. Is it possible he could have them in his gastrointestinal tract? And if so, could they cause his stool to change from absolutely perfect to light brown in color, small, thin, too moist, intermittent diarrhea, and foul smelling? I wonder if he could also have IBS or IBD. I would do ANYTHING to help him! So, if someone has any advice or ideas I sure would greatly appreciate your time and efforts.
