About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of LANSOPRAZOLE patients who developed ACHLORHYDRIA.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 3 individuals taking LANSOPRAZOLE reported ACHLORHYDRIA to the FDA. A total of 26965 LANSOPRAZOLE drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between LANSOPRAZOLE and ACHLORHYDRIA. In doing so, we compare LANSOPRAZOLE with other drugs that cause ACHLORHYDRIA, to help you evaluate whether or not LANSOPRAZOLE causes ACHLORHYDRIA. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of LANSOPRAZOLE, so you can see if ACHLORHYDRIA ranks among LANSOPRAZOLE's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of LANSOPRAZOLE causing ACHLORHYDRIA: 3
Reports of any side effect of LANSOPRAZOLE : 26965
Percentage of LANSOPRAZOLE patients where ACHLORHYDRIA is a reported side effect: 0.0111%

ANASTOMOTIC LEAK
I had a revision of a Gastric Sleeve Carried out on 12 th December 2013. Methylene Blue was injected before the operation was finished and there was. No gastric leak. 2 hours after my surgery, I was given orodispsible Lansoprazole. I was semi conscious at the time and according to the medication chart the Lanzoprozole should not have been started until the following day and then with sips of water. I was told to swallow the tablet whole and given over 100 Mls of apple juice to drink with it. Less than 1 hour later I was in severe pain and had to be given Morphine by the surgeon. My observations changed and I had to have an emergency endoscopy 24 hours later which showed I had a gastric leak. I was then in hospital for 3 months in stead of 2 days, could not eat, drink or swallow for 3 months and 18 months later am still in and out of hospital with abdominal abscesses. I am sure the Lansoprazole caused the leak and am looking for information to support my case as I had to have carers twice a day and have been unable to work since. Any help, information or advice that anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Hazel 2015-07-24 02:54:56

CONCERN
PANCREATITIS
I was experiencing slight pancreatitis back in 2006-2011 with 4 hospital visits in that time frame. Lansoprazole was prescribed in about 2008. In 2012-6 visits, 2013-11 visits, 2014-7, 2015-5, 2016-5. Diagnosis is now chronic acute idiopathic pancreatitis and I have been learning to control it myself with opiates (Hydromorphone Contin 3 mg 2 times a day and Hydromorphone 3 mg as required every 4 hours) and a clear fluid diet at home, unless the pain gets beyond my control. 5 days ago my specialist suggested that I take just one 30 mg pill of Lansoprazole a day rather than two. I have gone 4 days without breakthrough pain which is a record for me, so maybe there is hope? Pain did hit me on the 5th day, but it has given me some hope that maybe relief is in my future with some fine tuning of my medication. 2017-03-04 12:33:16
