About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of LEVOTHYROXINE SODIUM patients who developed ELECTROCARDIOGRAM ST-T CHANGE.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 19 individuals taking LEVOTHYROXINE SODIUM reported ELECTROCARDIOGRAM ST-T CHANGE to the FDA. A total of 52076 LEVOTHYROXINE SODIUM drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between LEVOTHYROXINE SODIUM and ELECTROCARDIOGRAM ST-T CHANGE. In doing so, we compare LEVOTHYROXINE SODIUM with other drugs that cause ELECTROCARDIOGRAM ST-T CHANGE, to help you evaluate whether or not LEVOTHYROXINE SODIUM causes ELECTROCARDIOGRAM ST-T CHANGE. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of LEVOTHYROXINE SODIUM, so you can see if ELECTROCARDIOGRAM ST-T CHANGE ranks among LEVOTHYROXINE SODIUM's most well-known side effects.

QUESTION
ALOPECIA SCARRING
I had a thyroid gland removed 30 years ago and have been on levothyroxine (1mg) since. I did not have any hair loss issues. A year or so ago my physician prescribed me 1.5 mg and 6 months ago I experienced the excessive hair loss. I scheduled 2 appointments with my physician but he didn't believe me and told me that I am spending too much time on the internet searching for connection between thyroid problems and hair loss. Approximately 4 months ago I started to have bold patches which I couldn't hide anymore and I started to wear a wig. My physician was shocked when I paid him a visit and finally sent me to see a dermatologist who performed a biopsy. The results come back and I was diagnosed with scarring alopecia. I'm wandering if the alopecia was triggered by excessive levothyroxine medication. My physician also prescribed me lower dosage of levothyroxine (1.25 mg) and after getting my blood test results decreased the dosage to 1.12 mg. I don't know if that dosage is still to high. 2014-12-12 19:50:28

QUESTION
COUGH
I just started considering that my cough could be linked to taking levothyroxine.. I have been taking it for at least seven years or more and my cough despite seeing many Drs Ents pulmonologists and gastro specialists, trying many things including acupuncture inhalers nebulizers you name it to no avail! I cough at least a dozen times a day and am getting really disgusted with the cough interfering with my life! I have undergone numerous tests manometry etc . The last comment mentioned the person had hypertension and that brings up another thought about a reason I had a mini stroke. In the hospital the doctor said I had hypertension. All my other numbers sugar cholesterol and blood pressure were in check. Sometimes I cough for so long or really hard that I wrench my back or stomach. At one point I thought my cough was genetic because I sound just like my mother. She also was on thyroid med for majority of her life! I could find her in the store by her strong cough! Now my husband finds me by my strong cough. Currently I am seein a dr who diagnosed me with LSN. Laryngeal sensory neuropathy. Sorry for rambling I just trying to get this cough to go away! Lots of people saying levothyroxine may be a culprit!! I cough in am sometimes before I take Levothyroxine or it got so bad last December that I was up at least twice on any given night. The cough is so bad that now I cough almost after every meal I'm calling my current throat specialist first thing Monday morning! Thanks all for listening! 2017-02-10 23:14:06
