About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of LIPITOR patients who developed WHOLE BLOOD TRANSFUSION.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 6 individuals taking LIPITOR reported WHOLE BLOOD TRANSFUSION to the FDA. A total of 102441 LIPITOR drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between LIPITOR and WHOLE BLOOD TRANSFUSION. In doing so, we compare LIPITOR with other drugs that cause WHOLE BLOOD TRANSFUSION, to help you evaluate whether or not LIPITOR causes WHOLE BLOOD TRANSFUSION. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of LIPITOR, so you can see if WHOLE BLOOD TRANSFUSION ranks among LIPITOR's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of LIPITOR causing WHOLE BLOOD TRANSFUSION: 6
Reports of any side effect of LIPITOR : 102441
Percentage of LIPITOR patients where WHOLE BLOOD TRANSFUSION is a reported side effect: 0.0059%

FDA reports of any drug causing WHOLE BLOOD TRANSFUSION : 63
Average percentage for all medicated patients where WHOLE BLOOD TRANSFUSION is reported as a complication: 0.0004%

I have been on lipitor for approximately 5 yrs , 10mg doses , 180 total colesteral, 68 ldl I am extreme mountaineer who trains for competitions at high altitudes _ 12000 ft I am very fit with a resting heart beat of 50 and low blood pressure I am on no other drugs I recently had a hypercoagulation event that caused a heart attack. I am 51 and have no history of heart issues or any other illnesses _ no family history of heart problems or hypercoagulation. I was lucky and the situation was remedied in a cath lab, sucking out the blood clot in the viens outside of my heart During the process the dr confirmed that I had no evidence of heart dieses at all Blood work.has been sent to.hemo labs but drs have no idea at this point of what caused the event Could me stopping the lipitor abruptly while training hard at high altitude caused the event? 2014-12-18 19:59:24
