About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of PANTOPRAZOLE patients who developed AKINESIA.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 1 individuals taking PANTOPRAZOLE reported AKINESIA to the FDA. A total of 15944 PANTOPRAZOLE drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between PANTOPRAZOLE and AKINESIA. In doing so, we compare PANTOPRAZOLE with other drugs that cause AKINESIA, to help you evaluate whether or not PANTOPRAZOLE causes AKINESIA. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of PANTOPRAZOLE, so you can see if AKINESIA ranks among PANTOPRAZOLE's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of PANTOPRAZOLE causing AKINESIA: 1
Reports of any side effect of PANTOPRAZOLE : 15944
Percentage of PANTOPRAZOLE patients where AKINESIA is a reported side effect: 0.0063%

FDA reports of any drug causing AKINESIA : 753
Average percentage for all medicated patients where AKINESIA is reported as a complication: 0.0047%

CONCERN
DIABETIC GASTROPARESIS
Treatment : 20 mg a day during 3 weeks. Horrible side effects : high anxiety and panic attacks, pain in chest and stomach pain (thought I was having a heart attack), irregular heart rythm, tons of gaz after eating and even after drinking water, abdominal pain, muscle aches, feel very weak and tired, low blood pressure, lost weight (4 kg in 12 days), severe diarrhea, gastroparesis, severe headache, tingling in hands and legs, hypomagnesemia. The side effects worsen with time. I've stopped it. My doctor don't believe me. He says I have depression. After stopping : acid rebound during 3 days which I treat with vegetable carbon black. It helps but one week after beeing of this drug, still feel crappy (weakness, no appetite, gaz, light headache, muscle pain). 2016-02-04 10:21:11
CONCERN
DIABETIC GASTROPARESIS
3 weeks on pantoprazole and 1 week on AINS. Horrible side effect. Extreme anxiety. A lot of gaz. Rapid weight loss (11 pounds in 3 weeks). Reflux that I not had before taking the drug. Pain in all my muscle as if I got the flu. Light fever. Headache. Nausea. Diarrhea. Bad taste in the mounth. Pain in the chest and arythmia (I already has arythmia treated by flecainide 150 mg but it went worse !). I went several times to emergencies cause I thought I was having a heart problem. They made blood test : everything OK about heart but increased CRP (inflammation). Urine testing : light hematuria (blood cells in urine) and ketones but no glucose (I'm not diabetic). I've just been diagnosed with gastroparesis which I did not have prior taking the drug. I see my doctor next week and hope he'll find a solution to help me eating and regaining weight. Now I stopped the drug 2 weeks ago and i've had acid rebound with big reflux during the first week. Now it's better : less gaz but still have nausea. Never again on this med ! The worst experience of my live ! 2016-02-10 07:48:33

QUESTION
NYSTAGMUS
I have been on Pantaprazole for 11 days now with horrible side effects. I was prescribed the medication for a full month by taking 2 pills for 15 days, and 1 pill for another 15. I am currently taking Pantaprazole 40 mg for mt acid reflux. I have even gotten eye pains, and now my eyes are acting funny. With my glasses on, I can look side to side no problem, a bit of dizziness, but that just goes with it. When my glasses are off and I try to look side to side my eyes kind of move a little faster with a slight bit of blurry vision, and it feels like it's jerking a little. I have also gotten dry eyes with inflammation around the eyelids and pains happening in the back of my eyeballs. Is this nystagmus, blepharitis, dry eye syndrome, retina detachment symptoms, or something else? I'm scared and nervous. I plan on getting another eye appointment within the week. Please help! 2016-04-01 19:05:46

QUESTION
HYPOTHYROIDISM
I have developed symptoms of hypothyroidism and/or Hashimoto's. I am wondering if Pantroprazole is a problem or has caused the problem. Although my traditional thyroid test falls in normal range, my symptoms became so bad I was hospitalized and diagnosed with A-Fib for which I now take Flecainide. I am getting in-depth testing done on my thyroid/hormones because there is so much info on the testing not being good enough nor getting to the bottom of T3 and more. But in my research I noticed a lot of drugs for GERD and the like are not tolerated with those who have hypothyroid. I have stopped taking the Pantropazole for now, but need answers. I have also gone on an all gluten, soy, dairy, free diet and eating only clean, fresh foods. But since I have had so much nausea (and not much when off the Pantroprazole), I lost 35 pounds in less than two months. Please help if you can shed some light on this. 2016-10-21 23:00:52

QUESTION
SKELETON DYSPLASIA
I was hospitalized over 2 months ago with a bleeding ulcer (Oct. 2016). The ulcer was caused by my taking one (1) Aleve daily to help relieve pain from a congenital form of Skelatal Dysplasia, my diagnosis is Pseudoachondroplasia. Part of the treatment for the ulcer, during my stay, and at home is Protonix and Iron. Since I have been on the Protonix, the pain in my bones has INCREASED severely. It has gotten to the point whereby I cannot walk without using a walker. I feel almost as though my bones will snap! My arthritis doctor ordered xrays and it was discovered that I have compression fractures in T8, T9 and T10. These fractures were not present at the time I had a bone density test about a year prior. In addition to the increased skeletal pain, I am having trouble with my vision. About 3 weeks ago I experienced white streaks going across my right eye which lasted about 2 hours. Ever since then, it's like trying to focus through a gray cloud. I also found out from my endocrinologist, (Hypothyroid) that IRON interferes with my synthroid! He advised that I take the iron at least 5 hours, either before or after taking my Synthroid. NOW I am reading that the Protonix can also negate my Synthroid! This has become a nightmare for me. Instead of recognizing that this medication can cause skelatal issues, but to give it to a patient who already suffers from Skelatal Dysplasia is absolutely irresponsible. I am taking myself OFF of the Protonix immediately! I am glad I found this, and other sites, since the Doctors either don't care or are too stupid to study up on the drugs they are prescribing! 2017-01-02 19:03:01
