About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of PEPCID patients who developed ACHLORHYDRIA.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 1 individuals taking PEPCID reported ACHLORHYDRIA to the FDA. A total of 10782 PEPCID drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between PEPCID and ACHLORHYDRIA. In doing so, we compare PEPCID with other drugs that cause ACHLORHYDRIA, to help you evaluate whether or not PEPCID causes ACHLORHYDRIA. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of PEPCID, so you can see if ACHLORHYDRIA ranks among PEPCID's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of PEPCID causing ACHLORHYDRIA: 1
Reports of any side effect of PEPCID : 10782
Percentage of PEPCID patients where ACHLORHYDRIA is a reported side effect: 0.0093%

FDA reports of any drug causing ACHLORHYDRIA : 27
Average percentage for all medicated patients where ACHLORHYDRIA is reported as a complication: 0.0002%

ARTHRITIS
I have been taking a 10mg famotidine tablet (the Kroger generic for Pepcid AC) to control GERD for about 2 weeks and noticed a significant increase in back and hip pain. I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my back at L4 and L5 and bursitis in my right hip. I am a speed walker, training for a marathon and have experienced severe pain following training walks of 15 and 17 miles. Before taking this medication, I did not have this extreme pain with what is regular exercise for me. I am a 55 year old post menopausal female.
