About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of REMICADE patients who developed RED MAN SYNDROME.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 32 individuals taking REMICADE reported RED MAN SYNDROME to the FDA. A total of 122703 REMICADE drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between REMICADE and RED MAN SYNDROME. In doing so, we compare REMICADE with other drugs that cause RED MAN SYNDROME, to help you evaluate whether or not REMICADE causes RED MAN SYNDROME. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of REMICADE, so you can see if RED MAN SYNDROME ranks among REMICADE's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of REMICADE causing RED MAN SYNDROME: 32
Reports of any side effect of REMICADE : 122703
Percentage of REMICADE patients where RED MAN SYNDROME is a reported side effect: 0.0261%

FDA reports of any drug causing RED MAN SYNDROME : 245

DEHYDRATION
I have been on Remicade and Methotrexate for eight months - an infusion every four weeks. Started at 4mg and the last three cycles went from 4 to 5, 6 and the most recent 7mg. The increased doses were prescribed because of extreme muscle and tendon pain. I have never had joint pain. The aftermath of the last infusion was a doozy. I have been extremely dehydrated with a chronic sinus problem. Does anyone else have these terrible muscle spasms and tendon pains? I show no antibodies to the Remicade but something certainly isn't right here. 2015-08-09 19:40:45

QUESTION
THERAPY CESSATION
I have been on remicade for years for crohn's disease remediation. The last 3 colonoscopies have shown no indication of crohns so my GI Doc and I decided to stop my infusions. About a month or so after my last scheduled remicade infusion I started having extreme joint pain including bad headache. I then restarted the remicade and the pain immediately ceased. The was a year ago and no problems since until I had to stop the remicade again because of a leg infection which necessitated an antibiotic drip line for 5 weeks so I had to stop my remicade infusions. Again about a month after my last scheduled remicade infusion, I started having the same horrible joint pains and headache. My question is will I have to be on the remicade forever to stop the joint pain etc or will this pain I'm having go away eventually? And what can I do about the pain since OTC meds don't work? My GI doc doesn't seem to know what to do. Any help would be appreciated, KS 2015-11-22 13:37:14

my husband had ulcerative colitis and was prescribed remicade. Good results at first but 4 months into the treatment he was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer. QUESTION
PARALYSIS
I'm 18 years old and had Ulcerative Colitis when I was 14 up until I was 16. It's a very similar isenlls.I was on all kinds of medication, including steroids which caused me to gain over 60 pounds. At one point, I was taking over 40 pills per day.The doctors wanted me to either try Remicade or have surgery. Needless to say, we ended up going with the surgery.Remicade had just been approved for Ulcerative Colitis, and we didn't want to take the risk. Remicade has caused lymphoma in children and other people, and those people eventually died. It isn't like you are definitely gonna die if you have to do it, but if there is another option, go that route instead of Remicade.I had 2 surgeries and had pretty much my entire colon removed. I had to have a colostomy bag for 3 months, and then went back to have the surgery reversed. They made a new' colon out of my small intestine and now I go to the bathroom normally, but a lot more frequently. It was still worth it, in my opinion. I feel so much better now that I'm off all of those medications, and don't have to take any.Plus, who knows what would have happened to me if I were to have taken the Remicade.I hope everything works out for the best for you. E-mail me at if you wanna talk about it, because I'd be glad to let you know more and talk to you. 2016-02-13 12:47:53

CLUSTER HEADACHE
I am a longtime sufferer of Crohns disease. I have tried many treatments over the years , and always would wind up back on prednisone which is a horrible medication longterm. Eventually i gave in to doctors telling me to try Remicade , although i had many concerns . I had researched it for a while before finally giving in and taking the infusions. Long story short , after receiving roughly 5 infusions i developed weird headaches. after visiting countless doctors ( while continuing Remicade ) i was finally diagnosed with Cluster headaches. I voluntarily stopped Remicade it was not helping my Crohns disease , but unfortunately the Cluster headaches continued and continue to this day 10+ years later. This was the only new or different thing i was introduced to , and the Cluster headaches only continued and worsened while taking Remicade. The fact that this website says only 10 people have had this side effect seems like a bad figure to me and more research should be done into this . 2017-03-15 20:09:42
