About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of RIBAVIRIN patients who developed ACANTHOLYSIS.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 1 individuals taking RIBAVIRIN reported ACANTHOLYSIS to the FDA. A total of 23801 RIBAVIRIN drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between RIBAVIRIN and ACANTHOLYSIS. In doing so, we compare RIBAVIRIN with other drugs that cause ACANTHOLYSIS, to help you evaluate whether or not RIBAVIRIN causes ACANTHOLYSIS. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of RIBAVIRIN, so you can see if ACANTHOLYSIS ranks among RIBAVIRIN's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of RIBAVIRIN causing ACANTHOLYSIS: 1
Reports of any side effect of RIBAVIRIN : 23801
Percentage of RIBAVIRIN patients where ACANTHOLYSIS is a reported side effect: 0.0042%

FDA reports of any drug causing ACANTHOLYSIS : 33

WHITE BLOOD CELL COUNT INCREASED
I was called by my pharmacologest recently with information about my 2 weeks lab results after taking Sofosbuvir & Ribivirin explaining my white blood cell count increased dramatically it was not an issue before. I was diagnosed with hep c 3 months ago and prior to that my white blood cell count wasn't an issue. I was told that my smoking was the cause and he didn't mention that Ribivirin could be the reason why. I smoke less than 8 cigarettes a day and I know it's not the reason why my white blood cells increased. What's going on? 2016-04-17 17:58:59
