About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of SERTRALINE patients who developed ADHESION.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 3 individuals taking SERTRALINE reported ADHESION to the FDA. A total of 5676 SERTRALINE drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between SERTRALINE and ADHESION. In doing so, we compare SERTRALINE with other drugs that cause ADHESION, to help you evaluate whether or not SERTRALINE causes ADHESION. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of SERTRALINE, so you can see if ADHESION ranks among SERTRALINE's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of SERTRALINE causing ADHESION: 3
Reports of any side effect of SERTRALINE : 5676
Percentage of SERTRALINE patients where ADHESION is a reported side effect: 0.0529%

FDA reports of any drug causing ADHESION : 955
Average percentage for all medicated patients where ADHESION is reported as a complication: 0.0060%

QUESTION
FOOD ALLERGY
I have been taking Sertraline for 2 months to address depression and anxiety with moderate success. About one month after taking Sertraline and shortly after increasing my dose to 100 mg. I have contracted Eosinophilic Esophagitis. EOE is essentially an allergic reaction to foods including but not limited to: soy, wheat, seafood, eggs, milk, cheese, nuts, seeds, and some meats. this has dramatically impacted my diet and overall health. I have lost weight and become weaker. It is near impossible to find foods that do not cause some sort or reaction. I have never had any allergy or issue with any type of food and now, as if overnight, I can not eat almost anything. There has been no other correlation in my life, other than taking Sertraline. It must be the cause. Will my allergies to food go away, if I get off Sertraline? How can I deal with these issues? 2015-05-04 15:37:07

QUESTION
BRAIN DAMAGE
I am a 59 year old man who last year had a fall in the street, somersaulting backwards landing head-first onto hard cobbles, and KO'd around 5 minutes. As a result I have had various issues and so my doctor put me onto sertraline. I took the first on a Monday afternoon, and at midnight I awoke with a massive head pain, not too unlike the pain I had when I fell on it. My legs also wanted to move at the Knee on their own. I took another pill the next morning, and while out in the afternoon found I was walking oddly - a bit of a waddle motion. I took another sertraline the next morning only to find in the evening my legs going weak affecting my balance. I phoned the doctor to tell him of these things and he said to stop taking the sertraline. However, a couple of weeks later I have had leg problems come and go, with last week my left leg refusing to take my weight and walk properly, plus weakness in the arms too. I've never had this before taking the sertraline. Can the sertraline have caused some sort of nerve or 'signal' damage from my brain to my limbs? Remember I experienced that really bad head pain and leg movement after the first pill. John 2015-11-30 13:58:55
QUESTION
DRUG INTERACTION
My wife has parkinsens since 2003. She takes carbo/levo 25-100,5 times a day primapexole 0.5 mg 3 times day, Levothroxin 112mg once day, Venlafaxine 150 mg am once day, sertraline 150mg bedtime and ibandronate 150mg once a month. When she gets up from sitting her blood pressures drops freezes up pass out and falls backwards hits head and knocks her out as yesterdy in parking lot. I took her to ER. All these meds are taken from 7am to 8pm. Doc said would wean off sertraline when given venlafaxine but has not and said it would help her sleep. Not true, she can not sleep good wakes up mid-nite and ever hr after. Then they want to give something to make you sleep, we said no to many drugs now. I need help, is there reactions with these drugs. We go to parkinsens support meetings once a month and see it affects every one different and find out more there than at the docs office. Thanks 2015-12-02 11:48:20

IRON DEFICIENCY ANAEMIA
I have taken a large dose (100-150 mg) of sertaline for many years. I am a committed blood donor, but often am deferred because my hemocrit doesn't reach the 38 mark for donating. I recently tapered down to 25mg (to explore an alternate, non-drug, therapy). Today I went to donate platelets and my hemocrit was 41! It has never been that high. It just made me wonder about sertaline, since that's the only change I've made recently. 2016-06-25 23:38:12
