About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of SULFAMETHOXAZOLE patients who developed ADHESION.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 7 individuals taking SULFAMETHOXAZOLE reported ADHESION to the FDA. A total of 1756 SULFAMETHOXAZOLE drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between SULFAMETHOXAZOLE and ADHESION. In doing so, we compare SULFAMETHOXAZOLE with other drugs that cause ADHESION, to help you evaluate whether or not SULFAMETHOXAZOLE causes ADHESION. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of SULFAMETHOXAZOLE, so you can see if ADHESION ranks among SULFAMETHOXAZOLE's most well-known side effects.

CONCERN
BALANITIS
Yes, Sulfamethoxazole will cause balanitis as I have gotten it three times from taking it. The first time I was unaware that it was the cause and it freaked me the hell out but during the second time I had taken some and within 15min my penis gland and foreskin begin to tingle and then it began to itch sooo! profusely that the thought of sticking it in a hot vat of grease would have been soothing. And this continued for hrs till it started to chaf and the skin started to turn red and hurt then the sores and etc. But at this time I still wasn't sure what was the cause but began to assume it was the Sulfa but couldn't say so for sure cause I wasn't for certain if I had ingested some the first time it occurred but said I wasn't going to take it anymore and swore I had thrown it out, well I was wrong and about a yr or so later I went to the medicine cabinet to take another brand of antibiotics and grabbed those and popped one and immediately knew I had scrwewed up when I saw Sulfamethoxazole on the bottle and I shit you not, as soon as it hit my bloodstream within 5min or so that tingling returned and the itch followed and I knew without a shout of a doubt that the Sulfa was the culprit. But I haven't had a case since and that was about 3yrs ago and I will NOT! ever take anything containing Sulfa ever again because those 3 weeks are the worse especially when the sores come, talk about tender to the slightest touch and with it being on the glands(head) of the penis almost makes protecting it with some sort of bandage impossible and even more so if it's underneath the foreskin. I may be just one of the unlucky ones that are allergic or whatever to this drug, but I'd be careful taking it cause Balanitis blows and you'll be hating life during it. 2018-04-20 01:44:28
