Study of possible correlation between CHEILITIS and SYNTHROID
Accompanying discussion about FactMed users Questions and Concerns
About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of SYNTHROID patients who developed CHEILITIS.
FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 43 individuals taking SYNTHROID reported CHEILITIS to the FDA. A total of 65802 SYNTHROID drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.FDA Research Report
Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between SYNTHROID and CHEILITIS. In doing so, we compare SYNTHROID with other drugs that cause CHEILITIS, to help you evaluate whether or not SYNTHROID causes CHEILITIS. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of SYNTHROID, so you can see if CHEILITIS ranks among SYNTHROID's most well-known side effects.
Summary StatisticsReports of SYNTHROID causing CHEILITIS: 43
Reports of any side effect of SYNTHROID : 65802
Percentage of SYNTHROID patients where CHEILITIS is a reported side effect: 0.0653%
FDA reports of any drug causing CHEILITIS : 2426
Average percentage for all medicated patients where CHEILITIS is reported as a complication: 0.0152%

| CONCERN PRESBYOPIA | I believe Synthroid and other thyroid supplements such as Levothyroxine (Levoxyl) have caused me to develop Presbyopia. I also notice that everyone (of any age including children / teens) who take Thyroid supplements need glasses or reading glasses and I think the link between Thyroid and poor vision or the inability to focus on objects close up should be studied in more detail. In my opinion, wIth my body, Synthroid has caused poor eyesight and the inability to focus on close objects ( Presbyopia ). | 2014-12-04 11:01:25 |

| QUESTION GRANULOMA ANNULARE | I take synthroid, 75 mcg daily and began over a year ago to have lesions on my arms. A dermatologist did a biopsy and found these lesions to be granuloma annular. I'm lost 70 pounds +, and now figured out that my synthroid should be adjusted. A TSH test was normal, but an endo suggested a free T 4 test. I'm now awaiting the results from this test. I'm sensitive to hearing, eyesight; have to wear sunglasses indoors, even, and am quite anxious. So, my question is, "Can an larger dose of synthroid cause the symptoms I have just mentioned?" Any help on this matter is appreciated. Oh, my regular doctor suggested I see a psychiatrist. Used to it was lose weight and you will be better. Are these the only two suggestions a dr. can come up with if they just don't know what is going on? Come on, be a professional and just say, "I don't know", already? | 2015-03-05 16:44:37 |
| QUESTION BLADDER IRRITATION | I have intersistial cystitis of the bladder and urethra. Mu Dr. increased my synthroid from 50 to 75 abt. 8 weeks ago. Just before 7 wks on the increased dose, I started to experience bladder problems, after being fine for the previous 2 mos. I'm wondering if it could be any thing added to the synthroid (ie, dyes , etc) | 2015-03-23 12:57:38 |
| QUESTION SEBACEOUS HYPERPLASIA | I have been taking synthroid for many years. I am now having problems with Sebaceous hyperplasia! And what treatments work the best! I can't go without my synthroid. | 2015-04-10 01:46:58 |

| QUESTION FLUSHING | I am 74 yrs. old, am 5'2 and weigh 180 + or which is up or down 2-3 lbs. never really going down. I am autaclly pretty healthy having been working with a functional doctor for a year and a half taking scads of tests, trying to find out why I can't lose weight when 10-15 years ago the high protein diet always worked for me.He exhausted all the supplements etc. that he had and agreed with me that maybe the missing part of the puzzle was thryoid.(He also lectures about thryoid every month or so and is well versed in this. However, he has never really thought the T3 therapy was valid but encouraged me to try it.)I went to an endo who also doesn't use T3 but did put me on Armour thryoid 30 mg. per day. I have taken this along with your Thryocare and see no difference (oh my thryoid tests all show normal ) after almost 2 months.I am not fatigued like some people but feel slightly sluggish at times and wish I had more motivation. I have taken my temperature like you suggest all this time and it has only gone to 98.6 six times. It varies from a couple of days 96.4 and the majority of time is in the 97 exact or plus area with some 98.0 to 98.4. Is this still considered low temp and do you have any advice for me. My eyebrows have always seemed to be short by 1/3,altho my skin is oily not dry. I would love to go to a doctor who you suggest in your newsletter, but none of them are on Medicare and that is why I went to a regular endo. I could not afford their fees. Thank you. | 2015-07-13 11:19:26 |
| QUESTION LICHEN PLANUS | I have lichen planus. I have lost the right part of the thyroid gland. I am told it could because I have used thyroid medicine for so long (maybe 35 years). I have always had low temps but doctors refused to believe that I was not normal. I itch all day and night. I begin itching after taking my Thyroid medication. I tell the doctors that I have have thyroid poisoning. They tell me no. I tell them I am allergic to thyroid medication. They tell me no one is allergic to thyroid medicine. I have an aortic valve insufficiency, high blood pressure and sometime low blood pressure. My thyroid levels are never the same from visit to visit. I had a lumpectomy on my left breast but have not taken any anti cancer medication because of the lichen planus. I need a doctor who can address some of these issues. What can I do and who can I talk to? | 2015-07-29 12:48:00 |

| QUESTION CEREBROVASCULAR ACCIDENT | My 74 y/o mother suffered a massive right-sided CVA exactly 6 weeks after her gynecologist started her on synthroid 50mcg/day. The doctor ran a single TSH level to make this decision, and never even discussed the thyroid screen with her before handing her a prescription saying, "you need to take this for your thyroid and you'll take it for the rest of your life." My mother was in perfect health and had only gone to this doctor for an annual well-woman checkup. Her TSH was 4.92. After her stroke, a cardiologist determined since my mother had zero risk factors for a stroke, and there had been a single recorded episode of atrial fibrillation while in the ICU, that this had likely been the cause of the stroke. By the time I started putting the puzzle together and asked the rehab physician to check her thyroid function, her TSH was 0.011. After this, they took her off the synthroid, and will follow up with a cardiologist to evaluate for any episodes of atrial fibrillation after enough time has passed for the synthroid to be eliminated from her body. What recommendations are prompting a physician to prescribe this drug to patients who have no complaints related to hypothyroidism, after only a single TSH level that was essentially normal for a 74 year old??? | 2015-09-29 18:47:06 |

In that time I've had lymphoma twice. Once NHL and once Hodgkin's Lymphoma. My oncologist was puzzled how it was possible for me to get it twice especially different types after it had been in remission for more than 10 years. Therefore, when my vagina returned to normal function after birth, I once again contributed this to being relative to pregnancy.
