About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of TAXOTERE patients who developed ACANTHOLYSIS.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 7 individuals taking TAXOTERE reported ACANTHOLYSIS to the FDA. A total of 12842 TAXOTERE drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between TAXOTERE and ACANTHOLYSIS. In doing so, we compare TAXOTERE with other drugs that cause ACANTHOLYSIS, to help you evaluate whether or not TAXOTERE causes ACANTHOLYSIS. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of TAXOTERE, so you can see if ACANTHOLYSIS ranks among TAXOTERE's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of TAXOTERE causing ACANTHOLYSIS: 7
Reports of any side effect of TAXOTERE : 12842
Percentage of TAXOTERE patients where ACANTHOLYSIS is a reported side effect: 0.0545%

FDA reports of any drug causing ACANTHOLYSIS : 33
Average percentage for all medicated patients where ACANTHOLYSIS is reported as a complication: 0.0002%

QUESTION
RETINAL DETACHMENT
I had my first round of Taxotere and Cytoxin for Stage I Breast Cancer 14 days ago. Since then, I had a five day hospitalization for neutropenic fever and was discharged yesterday. Shortly after arriving home, I experienced white light flashes and streaks in my right eye. I went to the optometrist who dial acted my eyes and examined my back of my eyes. He found no retinal detachment. Today, after a short walk outside, I experienced a large black, smoke-like wisp across the right field of vision that was persistent. I went inside to rest, and it has diminished but is not gone. I called the oncologist who "doubted" any connection between taxotere/Cytoxin and retinal detachment. I will seek ED care if it continues. Please let me know your thoughts. 2014-11-27 17:46:31
