About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of TRILEPTAL patients who developed ACHLORHYDRIA.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 1 individuals taking TRILEPTAL reported ACHLORHYDRIA to the FDA. A total of 9422 TRILEPTAL drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between TRILEPTAL and ACHLORHYDRIA. In doing so, we compare TRILEPTAL with other drugs that cause ACHLORHYDRIA, to help you evaluate whether or not TRILEPTAL causes ACHLORHYDRIA. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of TRILEPTAL, so you can see if ACHLORHYDRIA ranks among TRILEPTAL's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of TRILEPTAL causing ACHLORHYDRIA: 1
Reports of any side effect of TRILEPTAL : 9422
Percentage of TRILEPTAL patients where ACHLORHYDRIA is a reported side effect: 0.0106%

FDA reports of any drug causing ACHLORHYDRIA : 27
Average percentage for all medicated patients where ACHLORHYDRIA is reported as a complication: 0.0002%

QUESTION
EYELID PTOSIS
My daughter was on Trileptol for about 11 years for seizures; the eleventh year she went into psychosis; she was taken off of that drug and all drugs and is seizure free; however 1 year ago today (two years after being off trileptol) she developed ptosis in one eye; we have been to MAYO and they have ruled out any cause by disease. Do you have any information on this trileptol ptosis relationship I can get before she has surgery to repair the eyelid? Thank you. 2015-03-10 14:27:02
QUESTION
MYOCARDITIS
I am a neurologist, recently had a patient that had been put on high doses of Lacosamide rapidly by another doctor, ( started at 200mg /day & then increased to 400mg 3 days later), along with Valproate 1500mg IV. This patient had been placed on the anti-convulsants with a dx of having a Non-STEMI ( MI) & 1st degree AV block. Over the course of her admission she was abruptly taken off lacosamide after being on it for almost 3 weeks, & was started on oxcarbezapine & phenobarbital. She was discharged on these two drugs, within 12 hours she was readmitted in multi-organ failure. Autopsy showed MI with subacute myocarditis. Could this have been the DRESS presentation vs. cardiogenic shock from an MI? This person had no prior history of liver or kidney disease. her eospinophil count was mildly elevated prior to her death. Thanks. 2015-03-20 03:31:15

APHASIA
I have been taking lithium for over 8 years now...and I developed some sort of aphasia. I have difficulty speaking, feeling clarity and finding the right words. My psychiatrist never warned me of this. I just want to know, now that I have changed lithium to trileptal......will I ever recover my speech and my clarity? DROOLING
My son is an adult with Autism. He is taking Trileptal 300mg TID. Also on Thorazine 150mg in AM and 125mg in PM. Risperdal 3mg BID, and Depakote 500mg BID. The past week he has developed intermittent drooling and agitation. Trileptal is the newest med added to his mix of meds. I'm trying to figure out which med. is causing his symptoms. All your input will be appreciated. Thanks 2015-08-14 15:55:26
QUESTION
DEMENTIA
My husband was put on Triliptal 150 mg (as possible TIAs 6 mo. ago being result small seizures). Was on this med 11 days, 2 per day. Dillusional, stopped eating, lost 43 lbs in 6 weeks, dehydrated. Still in hospital, in total two months now. Got bacterial infection, cause unknown to date, still dillusional, on restraints some times so he doesn't pull out IV, catheter, oxygen. The same doctor who prescribed the Triliptal while in hospital had two months earlier in his office prescribed Triloptal and after only two pills I called and said no, he is dillusional. When he prescribed same drug in Hosp, apparently didn't check his patient list. 2015-11-16 20:37:39

Do side effects to this medication tend to be permanent and possibly even intensify? I had anhedonia five months after taking it and Vyvanse cured it and then last year I had a grand mal seizure and was diagnosed with epilepsy. The vyvanse doesn't seem to be working anymore, even if I take holidays from it but I had only taken this medicine for five months when the anhedonia began in March 2014 and went off of it in June 2015. 2016-05-22 11:56:04

QUESTION
AGGRESSION
My previously non-violent 35 year old son was diagnosed with Bipolar I after a traumatic death of his father. My son was taking Oxcarbazepine for a few days when he lost memory and spontaneously and without provocation attacked a person in public . He was charged by a Manhattan DA with Felony Assault. We have had genetic testing done that indicates he has polymorphisms and SNPS in two genes required for the metabolism of Trileptal. In fact, of the 5 major drug groups he has 3 such issues. I need more information in order to mount his defense. He is an Ivy League grad and public personality so he has been asked to resign from his job. I would appreciate any lawsuit leads because this drug is reported online to be a significant cause of Aggressiveness, which is pharmaceutical lingo for the words "Violent Behavior." I am looking for other males in their early thirties to begin action against Novartis for selling this drug without a single research report when used for treatment of Bipolar disease. Please feel free to call 817-296-1883 and say you're calling about Trileptal if you have information, or have had a battery charge while taking Trileptal/Oxcarbazepine. Please call 8172961883. 2016-08-21 12:06:07
