About this FactMed analysis covering adverse side effect reports of XELODA patients who developed ACANTHOLYSIS.

FactMed provides MD-approved analysis to help both patients, researchers, and physicians accurately assess the risk profile for more than 20,000 different pharmaceutical products. The below report offers compiled information from Food & Drug Administration and FactMed user submissions. Between January 2004 and October 2012, 9 individuals taking XELODA reported ACANTHOLYSIS to the FDA. A total of 17224 XELODA drug adverse event reaction reports were made with the FDA during this time period. Often the FDA only receives reports of the most critical and severe cases; these numbers may therefore underrepresent the complication rate of the medication.

FDA Research Report

Introduction This page is designed to help you determine the relationship, if any, between XELODA and ACANTHOLYSIS. In doing so, we compare XELODA with other drugs that cause ACANTHOLYSIS, to help you evaluate whether or not XELODA causes ACANTHOLYSIS. Likewise, this page shows the most highly-reported side effects of XELODA, so you can see if ACANTHOLYSIS ranks among XELODA's most well-known side effects.
Summary Statistics
Reports of XELODA causing ACANTHOLYSIS: 9
Reports of any side effect of XELODA : 17224
Percentage of XELODA patients where ACANTHOLYSIS is a reported side effect: 0.0523%

FDA reports of any drug causing ACANTHOLYSIS : 33
Average percentage for all medicated patients where ACANTHOLYSIS is reported as a complication: 0.0002%

GROIN PAIN
About 2 weeks ago, I was prescribed 3000 mg of xeloda per day, 1500mg each time with 12 hrs gap. QUESTION
GASTROINTESTINAL MOTILITY DISORDER
After taking Xeloda for two months, my wife developed severe, chronic nausea, so that she has not been able to eat or drink normally for 2 months and 2 weeks. We have been scoped, and tested and hospitalized and come up with a "diagnosis" of "visceral hypersensitivity" with "gastro paresis". She is having motility issues, meaning that her food does not pass into her bowels, but instead, backs up causing chronic nausea and regular vomiting that has been as close as twice a day to once every 2-4 days with varying frequency. Just spent a week in the hospital with a "Hygrade obstruction of the small bowel". They dropped a Naso Gastric tube into her stomach to pump out the excess fluid, thus relieving pressure on her stomach and small bowel. After 5 days they pulled it out and put her on a liquid diet. Once she was able to "tolerate" this diet for 24 hours that let her have some soft foods and pronounced her well enough to go home. We are slowly giving her more and more foods, but she feels very tenative on how this is making her gut feel and we're hearing lots of audible bowel sounds. Afraid we might wind up with another obstruction and have to go back into the hospital. 2016-11-13 20:22:08
QUESTION
SLEEP APNOEA SYNDROME
My father (72 years old) has always had sleep apnoea. Autumn 2016 he was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer; he has completed two courses of Xeloda. On this break he developed severe diarrhoea, cramps and nausea. After IV treatment over a week in hospital he developed oedema (huge swelling in his feet). Home now, taking loperamide, but still suffering he now has severe oedema in legs and feet. I have read that severe sleep apnoea can cause oedema. Could Xeloda have worsened his sleep apnoea? Thereby causing the oedema? I know that there are many causes for oedema and he is being checked out by a doctor today, but I am not sure that the doctor/s will pick up on this possible connection! 2017-01-03 08:06:14
